Skin Food: Korean Skincare Masks

I’ve been slowly trying to venture into the world of Korean skincare. They have so many different and unique products that it can seem intimidating. Luckily Ulta has recently started carrying a larger variety of Koren skincare brands, one of those being Skin Food. This brand has such unique products from a Sake Pore Serum to a Pineapple Peeling Gel and even a Gummy Bear Hand Gel. With so many different products to chose from I thought starting off with their masks would be the best and safest bet.

Skin Food is known for creating products centered around the benefits of food. They had so many unique masks to pick from but I settled with the Egg White Pore Mask, Black Sugar Strawberry Mask, and the Wash Off Rice Mask. I was originally only going to purchase the egg and rice masks but the strawberry mask sounded too intriguing to pass up.

Egg White Pore Mask | $10.50

This mask is probably my favorite out of the three. It’s a very thick opaque white cream. You need a small amount to cover your entire face, which is nice because this product is going to last for a long time. This mask is supposed to clean your pores while tightening and smoothing them. It also promises to control oil and provide anti-aging benefits. I really think this mask stands up to all those claims, except the anti-aging one that’s a little harder to measure. After using it my face feels so clean and refreshed. It’s soft to the touch and my pores are visibly less noticeable. This is a great mask to use before doing your makeup because it really does help control oil. This will help your makeup glide on smoothly over your pores. Another bonus that I was nervous about, this mask really doesn’t have any sort of egg smell or feel like your just putting egg whites on your face.

Black Sugar Strawberry Mask | $11.50

This mask, on the other hand, feels exactly like you’re taking muddled strawberries and smearing them across your face. It smells and looks exactly like that as well. If you have any sort of sensitivity to strawberries, or just don’t like them, this mask is not for you. The only thing this mask promises to do is hydrate and nourish leaving it “fragrant with a strawberry scent.” Not once in my life have I wished for a mask to make my face smell like strawberries, and that’s pretty much all this mask does for me.  Yeah, it does leave it feeling hydrating but I have much better, and less fruity, masks that do the same thing.

Left: Strawberry, Front: Rice, Right: Egg

Wash Off Rice Mask | $10.00

This is another one I have been enjoying. The texture of this mask is a little more chunky nd not as opaque as the egg mask. This mask promises to hydrate and brighten your skin. Although I haven’t noticed drastic differences in the brightness of my skin after using this mask, it does hydrate it and leave it feeling clean and smooth. This mask contains Odae rice water which is featured in many of their brightening products. When using this mask, you want to massage it into your skin before leaving it on for 10-15 minutes. It’s a much lighter mask than the egg one and doesn’t dry down completely. this is great for people who have an issue with masks drying out their skin too much.
